Downtown

Downtown Austin is easy to get to and easy to get around in once you're here. It's centrally located right off IH-35 on the east and Mopac (Loop 1) on the west. If you're coming by car, from IH-35 take any exit between MLK and Town Lake and go west. If you're on Mopac (Loop 1), exit at Enfield, 5th or 1st Streets and head toward the tall buildings. You can't miss it!

Once in Downtown look for the special parking logo for public parking; visit our parking section for more details and a map of where to park downtown.

If you're lucky enough to be flying in (and we mean lucky!), you'll be arriving at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). In 2002, J.D. Powers ranked ABIA second highest in the world for customer satisfaction because of all the special touches like live music, and locally-themed shops and restaurants — not to mention the quality service.

It's a quick and easy drive to Downtown from the airport. Just take Highway 71 east to Highway 183 north and then get off at the 7th Street exit and follow 7th into Downtown — or continue east on Highway 71, then take IH-35 north into downtown.

If you're not driving, there are lots of other ways to get around. Capital Metro provides public transit in Austin. Along with regular bus lines, they have services such as the free 'Dillo trolleys, the Airport 100 express route between downtown and Austin Bergstrom International Airport, and the Tour the Town bus (a weekend tourist-oriented service). There are miles of hike and bike trails along Town Lake, Shoal Creek and Waller Creek.

Even AMTRAK comes right to Downtown. Catch the next train to Austin!
