Last week, The Trail Foundation (TTF) hosted its annual “State of the Trail” address, detailing the work the organization does each year to improve Austin’s most used and admired urban green space – the Butler Trail at Lady Bird Lake. This year, TTF announced its newest project would be the Trail Bridge at Congress Avenue. The new bridge will enhance Trail safety for both pedestrians and bicyclists, make the area ADA-accessible, increase the Trail’s width, connect the Trail to the Waller Creek area, lower the city’s maintenance costs, and create a beautiful site to view the Congress Avenue bats.

TTF also announced the lead donor for this project during the “State of the Trail” address. Robert F. Smith, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, has pledged $1.25 million toward the project. TTF plans to raise an additional $1.25 million through a matching campaign in order to meet the total cost of the project.
