d berman gallery is pleased to present new work by Jana Swec and Jared Theis, two central Texas artists whose use of expressive line quality and personal themes resonate in their quietly seductive work.

East Austin Studio Tour co-founder and member of the Sodalitas art *collaborative*, Jana Swec finds inspiration in nature. The lines of her pen and ink drawings undulate across the paper, creating intricate, abstracted forms of merging trees, root structures, and elephants' trunks and legs.

Jared Theis combines his mastery of finely detailed ceramics and his passion for music to create the body of work //Measures//. These slabs of clay are delicately etched into [*into* - delete], resulting in relief-like qualities that rhythmically push and pull into the surfaces.

Please join us Thursday July 25 from 6-8 pm for the opening reception and again Saturday August 8th at 1pm for an informal musical performance by the artists.

The popular annual speaker series at the Neill-Cochran House Museum, Modern Time, was so named because the beautiful 1855 residence was always current with its social, technological, and cultural milieu. Now kids can step back in time at a program that's just for them.

Three five-hour classes will gently drop children, aged 7 to 12, into the 19th century where they will learn about art and architecture (vocabulary included free!), historic games, and etiquette.

Using our antebellum gem for inspiration, The Artistic Eye of Abner Cook participants will channel the spirit of its designer and builder Abner Cook to create mixed-media masterpieces! After experiencing the classic elements of Greek Revival architecture and learning the vocabulary, children will use paint, charcoal, marker, paper, and their limitless imaginations to produce their own interpretations of the Neill-Cochran House. With guidance from art educators and NCHM volunteers, your child's artwork is guaranteed to bypass the refrigerator and head straight to the wall! BYO bag lunch; snacks & beverages included; ages 6-11; $50; preregistration required, please see website for enrollment form.

The Doyle and Debbie Show is sublime parody, simultaneously lampooning and idolizing country music's tradition of iconic duos and their subsequent battle of the sexes. Bruce Arntson and Jenny Littleton wield the vocals of vintage country stars and the acting chops of Broadway veterans, taking audiences on a freewheeling joyride through a wickedly funny script and slew of equally hilarious original songs. Over the past two years, Doyle and Debbie have developed a rabid cult following in Nashville, many of whom have seen the show over a dozen times--everyone from theater-going professionals to college students who wouldn't be caught dead in a theater or a country bar.

In this interactive, multisensory sculptural installation, Wetzel transforms the gallery into two dreamlike realms, featuring an ambient desertscape giving way to a shrouded spiral chamber. Outside the chamber, the desert scene seems haunted by the sounds of drumming. Inside the chamber, visitors cross into a separate, black-lit world to experience a geodesic drum ritual performed by Wetzel and masked attendants.
