Austin’s Downtown continues to be economically vital. Since the the Downtown Austin Alliance was founded in 1993:

Property values have grown by more than 500%, from $699 million to $4.3 billion.

Multi-tenant office space has grown by 24%, from 6.8 million square feet to 8.4 million square feet.

Residential population, which held steady at about 4,000 from 1990 to 2000, has grown 125% in the last ten years to approximately 9,000 residents.
